Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-Based Interventions Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required) Technical Assistance Webinar

Date: December 19, 2023 - 2:00 p.m. ET to 3:00 p.m. ET

Updates for Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-based Interventions Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required)

April 10, 2024 - The reissued notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) was published in the NIH Guide on April 10, 2024: Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-based Interventions Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required) – PAR-24-168.

This funding opportunity supports proof-of-concept feasibility trials guided by the NIH Music-based Interventions (MBI) Toolkit for research on brain disorders of aging. The first receipt date is June 20, 2024. This reissued NOFO has clarified important non-responsiveness criteria; power and sample size considerations; and the acceptability of fully remote feasibility and acceptability trials.

December 21, 2023 - As mentioned during the webinar, PAR-23-256 will be revised and reissued. PAR-23-256 expired on December 21, 2023. See the NIH Guide Notice: Notice of Need to Expire and Reissue PAR-23-256 Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-based Interventions Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required). Thus, no further applications will be accepted for consideration under PAR-23-256. The revised notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is expected to be published in March 2024, with an expected application due date in June 2024. We will inform you when the new NOFO is published.

Event Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites you to join us on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 2–3 p.m. ET for a technical assistance webinar to learn more about a recently released R34 funding opportunity:

PAR-23-256: Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-based Interventions (MBI) Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required).*

This funding opportunity supports proof-of-concept feasibility trials guided by the NIH Music-based Interventions (MBI) Toolkit for research on brain disorders of aging.

These early phase clinical trials will generate evidence supporting the validity of the NIH MBI Toolkit’s guiding principles as well as the necessary data to design a subsequent clinical efficacy or effectiveness study (or pragmatic clinical trial) using MBIs in the context of brain disorders of aging. Validation, dissemination, and implementation of the NIH MBI Toolkit’s guiding principles are viewed as critical steps toward accumulating the large-scale, rigorous, and replicable evidence necessary to incorporate MBIs into clinical practice.

This technical assistance webinar is provided for potential applicants who want to learn details about this exciting and unique funding opportunity. The webinar will feature highlights of application considerations from program staff at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and the National Institute on Aging. It will also include a presentation on review requirements from NCCIH’s Office of Scientific Review. The latter portion of the webinar (30 minutes) will be devoted to answering applicant questions.

Attending this technical assistance webinar is NOT a requirement for submission to this notice of funding opportunity.
