The summer season can bring with it an increased focus on health and fitness as consumers often look toward diet and nutrition programs, supplements, and exercise in an effort to lose weight or to promote general health and wellness. Although dietary supplements marketed for weight loss or appetite suppression are available in pharmacies, grocery stores, health food stores, and on the Internet, most of these products haven’t been proven effective and some have been proven to be dangerous. This month we’ll be hosting a Twitter Chat about the science and safety of natural products in addition to other approaches—such as mindfulness meditation—for weight loss.
We’ll be joined by two NCCAM experts:
- D. Lee Alekel, Ph.D., who has a background in nutritional sciences and oversees NCCAM’s weight loss portfolio.
- John S. Williamson, Ph.D., who oversees NCCAM’s natural products portfolio.
