The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health welcomes four new members to the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The council serves as the principal advisory body to NCCAM, the lead federal agency for research on complementary and integrative medicine.
“Millions of older Americans take nutritional supplements to protect their sight without clear guidance regarding benefit and risk,” said NEI director Paul A. Sieving, M.D., Ph.D. “This study clarifies the role of supplements in helping prevent advanced AMD, an incurable, common, and devastating disease that robs older people of their sight and independence.”
Results from the chelation arm of the Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) were published in the March 27, 2013, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
