Partap S. Khalsa, D.C., Ph.D., D.A.B.C.O., administers the NCCAM research portfolio related to manual therapies including massage, soft tissue therapies, movement therapies, joint and spinal mobilization, and spinal manipulation. Also included in his research portfolio are other manual therapies commonly utilized by a number of clinical professions (e.g., Doctors of Chiropractic, Naturopathic Physicians, Osteopathic Medical Physicians, and Physical Therapists). The portfolio spans research from mechanisms to translational tools and clinical trials. It also is primarily focused on pain in general and musculoskeletal pain in particular. Yoga research is also included in Dr. Khalsa's portfolio. 

Dr. Khalsa is the coordinator for NCCAM’s Centers of Excellence in CAM Research (CERC) program. He is also the coordinator for NCCAM's strategic interests in research on complementary medicine interventions for pain.

Dr. Khalsa received his D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic) degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and earned his M.S. in biomedical engineering from Boston University. He received his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Following postdoctoral training in neurophysiology at Yale University, Dr. Khalsa served as assistant professor, tenured associate professor, and vice-chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University (SUNY).
