How Decisions on Awards Are Made
NCCAM goes through a series of steps and considers input from scientists and public representatives as it makes decisions about funding opportunities and grant awards. The process is legally mandated and is standard across the NIH.
Most applications are reviewed by study sections at the NIH Center for Scientific Review, but several types of applications to NCCAM are reviewed by NCCAM Special Emphasis Panels (examples).
