Appendix 1

Goal: To reduce and ultimately eliminate health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities.

Research Objectives

  • Advance understanding of the development and progression of diseases and disabilities that contribute to health disparities in minority populations.
  • Develop new or improved approaches for detecting or diagnosing the onset or progression of diseases and disabilities that contribute to health disparities in minority populations.
  • Develop new or improved approaches for preventing or delaying the onset or progression of diseases and disabilities that contribute to health disparities in minority populations.
  • Develop new or improved approaches for treating diseases and disabilities that contribute to health disparities in minority populations.

Research Infrastructure Objectives

  • Support research training and career development.
  • Provide support for institutional resources (extramural and intramural).

Communications and Outreach Objectives

  • Develop research-based information resources.
  • Communicate research-based information to increase public awareness
  • Transfer knowledge to health care providers.

Strategic Area 1: Investing in Research

  • Goal 2: Expand the scope of the NCCAM Extramural Research portfolio and participation by research subjects.
